Belgium announced that Mustii would be their artist all the way back in August, and we finally have his song. This is "Before The Party's Over":

About the Artist

Thomas "Mustii" Mustin is 30 years old and hails from the Belgian capital of Brussels. He's spent a lot of time in theatre and film, but evidently he also can sing. He also serves as a judge on Drag Race Belgique.


Song Analysis

There's some big Eurovision names in the songwriting list here - Nina Sampermans (Estonia 2023, Switzerland 2021) and Pierre Dumoulin (Belgium 2019 which unfortunately struggled live, Belgium 2017). As you'd expect from that, this is a very well-put together ballad. The first bit is kind of slow, but the last minute of this song rocks. If this comes together live......

Belgium's History


Historically, Belgium's been pretty lackluster - 8 last places and only one win (1986). Recently, things have been much better, though - 6 qualifications out of the last 8 contests. They've really set a precedent of sending either throwback pop (2016, 2022, 2023) or darker, more balladic pop (2017-2021, and now 2024).


Belgium is a solid 14th in my personal rankings, but if you start the clock in 2015, they rise into my top 5. Their recent stretch has really been incredible, and all of my top 5 Belgian songs are from that period:

Prognosis

Assuming a good live performance, this should be fine to qualify, at which point it'll do very well with the juries. Belgium may well be headed for another top 10 finish if so.

     In lieu of a full state preview this year, I've chosen to focus on one section of the meet: the D2 boys' race, which looks to be the most competitive one of the day. I spoke with several of the title contenders' coaches and took a closer look at their teams. Season in Review     There were high hopes for FHE coming off a stellar track season, but a few questions remained headed into the season. Would 1600/3200 strength translate to the grass? How do you replace a low-stick like Aiden Sullivan? Two Peninsulas Are Better Than One? A Hypothetical Statewide XC Championship

       With UP and LP soccer finally being merged after years of separation (this had to go to court for some reason), there have been slight rumblings about a similar change to XC and/or track. That seems unlikely at this point, considering UP soccer didn't even have a state tournament while XC and track very much do, but what this article supposes is: what if that happened? Let's take the 2022 XC season and see how the state meet would've looked if both peninsulas competed together. The Basics      Merging the two peninsulas messes with the division cutoffs quite a bit. Most UP schools are very small - Marquette is usually the only one with a LP D1 enrollment number, and just 4-5 more fit into D2 most years. This causes a massive shift of schools up the division hierarchy: UP teams are in bold here - you can see that most of the divisional changes end up being LP teams. Region 9 Boys: A Deep Dive

Going through this year's regionals, a few stand out as particularly tough cases to prognosticate. Let's take a closer look at Region 9's boys' race: the most unusual, confusing, storyline-packed regional in the state.
