Another much-hyped internal selection has dropped their song: it's Austria's Kaleen and "We Will Rave"!
About the Artist
Marie-Sophie Kreissl is well-established as a dancer and choreographer, but she's done some singing as well and is apparently good at it. (Not that there's a ton of singing in this song). She's been involved in Eurovision staging and rehearsals for years, famously including her stand-in performance for the "Fuego" rehearsal in 2018.
Song Analysis
As has become traditional with Austria, this leaked ages ago. "We Will Rave" has been stuck in my head since early January, and that's fine, because this is really good. It's been a while since we've had a good Eurodance song at the contest, and this fills that niche.
Austria's History
Seven last places and only two wins - not the strongest record for a country that's been participating since the second year of the contest. Still, 2014 was a magical moment that brought the contest further along in its rise to prominence, and winning the jury vote in 2018 was quite a surprise.
Austria is 18th in my 2000-2023 rankings, mostly putting out solid 10th-15th ranked songs with few real standouts. The recent run has been particularly solid, even if televoters haven't really been on board.
Prognosis
People are hyping this up as a potential winner, and I don't quite see that, but this should absolutely qualify.
